Members of Young Christian Workers (YCW) from around England and Wales gathered at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday, 1 May, the Feast of St Joseph the Worker, their patron saint, to celebrate young people’s contribution to the Church and society.

YCW at youth workers Congress - launching 'Mapping the Terrain'
At the CYMFed Congress at Friends Meeting House in Euston, Danny Curtin, National President of the YCW launched a ground breaking new research document, alongside Northampton Diocese and CAFOD. The new research, published by CYMFed (Catholic Youth Ministry Federation), is the result of two year's collaboration from dioceses, religious orders and organisations working with Catholic young people. YCW have been at the heart of its development.»more |

YCW to MPs: Stop the Scandal
The Young Christian Workers have extended their call of ‘Get Fair' asking Members of Parliament to turn their attention from the expenses scandal to the scandal of UK poverty.
To date, 120 MPs have been successfully lobbied though local YCW and Impact groups up and down the country. Phil Callaghan, from Urmston YCW, tells how they invited their own MP to join the cause. »more |

Formation across the Generations
Over the last few months the YCW has been undertaking an ambitious programme of formation, offering training courses to priest chaplains and adult companions up and down the country.
"Building a School without Walls" is a course for priests, religious and lay adults who gather for quality input, a chance for reflection, discussion and sharing, and to go away equipped to accompany young people.

"The Remains of a Burnt-out Love"
The relics of St Thérèse visited the UK from 16th September to 16th October 2009. The YCW organised the young adult event in London, at Westminster Cathedral, on Wednesday 14th October.
The liturgy led the young people through the life of St Thérèse. After the vigil there was an opportunity to pray with the relics.

An Exchange of Work, Fun and Friendship
Over the summer we held an exchange with the YCW in France (called ‘JOC'). During the time that the English/French group were in England they helped to run the Brightlights Festival. Whilst in France, they helped to renovate one of the farm properties that JOC France own. Emma Stradling, offers her memories of the Exchange.
