Bin it! St Monica's Youth want to clean up Hoxton
The Youth Group from St Monica's, Hoxton (East London) took up a Live Simply Community Challenge to improve their local environment. Using "Take Out", produced of course by YCWImpact, they surveyed their local area through photos, talking to people and creating a huge map of the area, with a view to bringing about some positive change.
After watching the "Take Out" DVD, the group was inspired and ideas for projects flowed. Littering and improving recycling collection from people's homes came top of the agenda; it's difficult to have recycling collections from flats and the young people pointed out that litter on the streets was a health hazard and made the area look ugly and unwelcoming. So far, the group has drawn designs for bins to make them more attractive to litterbugs and they will be writing to their local Councillors to challenge them to improve litter collection facilities.
